Meet, Chelsea, one of the candidates running for Student Government Parliamentarian!

Chelsea Bennett ‘30 (she/her)
Major: Government & Law
I’m running for Parliamentarian because I want to make our Student Government work better, faster, and more openly for all of Lafayette. Coming in as a freshman, I realized how much energy and potential we have on campus, and I want to make sure our meetings run smoothly so we can focus on getting real results for students. My vision isn’t to be a rigid human rulebook, but to keep procedure clear, accessible, and efficient so every member feels comfortable speaking up and bringing new ideas to the table. By keeping our meetings on track, staying constitutionally fair, and making parliamentarian rules easy to navigate for everyone, I’ll help us dedicate our energy to what actually matters, such as improving campus life, supporting student clubs, and making sure every student voice is heard. I bring plenty of energy, order, and dedication, and I’d love to help lead us toward a clearer and more productive year! Additionally, beyond keeping meetings on track, I’m fully committed to upholding our constitution and bylaws to ensure everything we do is transparent and fair. To me, effective parliamentary procedure is about creating a space where every single member is seen and heard. This makes sure both majority decisions and minority opinions are respected, valued, and given a fair platform. Overall, I’m ready to bring the energy, keep us grounded in our rules, and make sure every voice on campus actually counts.
I believe I am the right person for the role of Parliamentarian because I am someone who is committed to being involved, showing up, and putting in the extra work necessary to make a difference at Lafayette. Since coming to Lafayette, I have made it a priority to become an active member of the campus community through organizations such as the Lafayette Leadership Education Committee, Phi Alpha Delta, Students Demand Action, and more. Being involved in these organizations has allowed me to work with different groups of people, take on responsibilities, and better understand what it means to contribute to something larger than myself. One of my greatest strengths is that when I commit to something, I take that commitment seriously. I am always willing to attend the extra meeting, take on another responsibility, or step in wherever I am needed. I would bring that same dedication to Student Government and the position of Parliamentarian. I understand that this role requires someone who is organized, attentive to detail, dependable, and willing to learn and uphold the procedures that allow Student Government to operate effectively. I am excited by the opportunity to develop those skills even further while helping meetings remain organized, fair, and productive. Overall, I want to be part of Student Government because I care about Lafayette and the people who make up its community. I would approach this position with enthusiasm, responsibility, and a genuine willingness to put in the work needed to support our campus fully.
